Dear Supporter,

With your donation, we are able to cover the cost of rescuing, transporting and caring for animals from the devastated hurricane region to their new homes in California. One of these animals, a cat we’ve dubbed Love Bug, was found trapped in an attic, too terrified to move. He survived for nearly six weeks drinking only rainwater. While we’re looking for Love Bug’s family, we’ve placed him in a foster home with Rascal, another hurricane survivor. These two have become fast friends and are now spending their days romping and chasing each other with great joy! They have plenty to eat, a warm bed to sleep in, and an abundance of love.

Sadly, our work is not yet over. Tens of thousands of rescued animals like Love Bug and Rascal and wasting away in makeshift shelters around the Gulf Coast. With so much destruction, there are no “regular’ shelters for the animals to be housed, and even if there were, the sheer number of animals needing to be cared for is overwhelming. As a result, cages of dogs and cats are filling abandoned grocery store parking lots in New Orleans. Veterinarians are housing as many animals as they can, with crates stacked from floor to ceiling. A few kind-hearted people in outlying areas have opened up their barns and backyards. Shelters across the country have taken in animals to help assist with the overflow.  Compassion for All is networking with all of these rescue groups, helping to identify those who can take animals and arranging for transport and veterinary care.

Tragically, an alarming number of pet owners are now relinquishing their animals because they have no place to keep them. These innocent creatures are held for five days. If they are not adopted by then, they will be (in the official words of the Louisiana SPCA) “disposed of”.  This is a disaster of unimaginable proportions.

Fortunately, people like you are making a difference. With your help, we can continue to work to increase the awareness of this on-going tragedy and to identify others who may be able to contribute to the cause either through financial support or by providing a loving home to these animals that desperately need our help and compassion.

With enormous gratitude,
Peggy & David Hall
